Waterman" is a striking porcelain sculpture that draws inspiration from Slavic mythology, particularly the mythological creature known as the Vodyanoy or "Water Man." Known for his deep connections to the underwater world, the Vodyanoy is often depicted as a mysterious, half-human, half-creature being, with close ties to the rivers, lakes, and streams he inhabits. In folklore, he is believed to govern the waters, and his relationships with mermaids and other water spirits are central to his mythos.
This sculpture embodies the essence of the Water Man, capturing both his ethereal beauty and his primal, elemental nature. With fluid, organic forms, the figure reflects the rippling movement of water, while the delicate porcelain medium speaks to the fragility and complexity of the natural world. The character’s posture and features evoke a sense of both power and grace—an aquatic being whose life is intertwined with the ever-shifting waters beneath the surface.
"Waterman" is part of a series of male figures I have sculpted, each inspired by mythical beings and ancient stories. Through this piece, I aim to explore the theme of water as a transformative, mysterious force—one that connects us to the deeper, unseen layers of existence. The sculpture invites the viewer to contemplate the duality of nature, where beauty and danger often coexist in harmony.
